The Idiot Box Isaiah Thomas, General Manager of the New York Knicks—Isaiah Thomas manages the New York Knicks like he's managing a fantasy basketball team...and he's not even good at that. A couple of weeks back, as the trade deadline approached, Thomas pulled off a deal that could be described as curious at best. He traded Penny Hardaway and backup forward Trevor Ariza for volatile-but-skilled point guard Steve Francis. At first blush, this may not seem like that bad of a deal—after all, Francis is definitely a better player than both of those other guys put togehter. But there was one small problem: they already HAVE a top-notch point guard! Aside from having absolutely no concept about how to optimize his resources, Thomas has now constructed a team where the two best players play the exact same position AND are both apt to complain when they don't get enough playing time. How in the hell does he expect this to work?!? When asked that very question, this was his response: "It's crazy enough it just might work." What an idiot. |
