Rant and Rave: Rave—The Canadian band Wolf Parade—Wolf Parade, a rock outfit out of Montreal, sound like a rougher, punchier cousin of The Arcade Fire, another amazing Canadian band. It's no coincidence that their first show was opening for that very band. Their debut album, Apologies to the Queen Mary, was released last month, and it's a fantastic listen. Especially great is the single "Shine A Light." It's the sort of kick the windows out, blow-down-the-door-'cause-here-I-come rock song that makes one want it as a personal anthem. It's rough and rollicking, yet still sweetly mournful. Just a strong piece of music, one wrought in the large sound that is the wail of those frozen folk in the north. |
